🔗 Share this article New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday. Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion. “That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.” The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable. “Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.” Authorities released security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries were reported. The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away. Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a child. “The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind. “A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.” Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair. He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.” Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
