Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
