Vince Zampella, renowned for co-creating the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in the state of California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The influential game designer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a highway in Los Angeles on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his family and friends, his family, and all those touched by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
